What's actually more ridiculous is to suggest that diabetics need a special diet at all. As long as the carbs can be calculated, any food is acceptable. What kind of ratio is your daughter on? Have you ever needed to open a second vial before the month expires the vial anyway? My daughter is 6. She was just diagnosed in March.
